RESCHEDULED: 6th Grade Admissions Exam

posted Jan 20, 2016, 2:18 PM by Marcie Shaw   [ updated Jan 22, 2016, 9:42 AM ]

Due to the impending storm, the Department of Education is cancelling all school activities scheduled for this weekend, including middle school admissions testing. Cancelling is the responsible thing to do to ensure the safety of your family and our school's staff. Please read the following and RSVP using the link in red below!

The rescheduled testing date is next Saturday, January 30th – same time and place (9:00-11:30 am at 100 West 77th Street, Manhattan):

  • If your child has a 504 or IEP that calls for extended time, this is the only date we have at this time to accommodate that mandate.
  • If your child has another middle school testing conflict on 1/30 that cannot be changed, we are offering two other dates (with very limited seating) as make up dates, Thursday, February 4th from 4:00-6:00 pm or Wednesday, February 10th from 4:00-6:00 pm.

EVERYONE must RSVP again via the link to our online form BY NO LATER THAN THIS SUNDAY, JANUARY 24TH@ 8:00 pm  to let us know what date your child will attend our testing, even if you have written to us, responded, rescheduled before. You’ll have plenty of time to do this on Saturday while you are snowbound! We need to have an accurate count asap to have enough proctors.

HERE IS THE NEW LINK TO RSVP: http://goo.gl/forms/Bf2G499xOd (Please do this right away!)

Summer reading lists for each grade are attached below (Kindergarten is at the bottom.) Please remember to open the list for the grade your child will be in this September!

Parents of rising 3rd - 7th graders: all students entering 3rd - 7th grade have one book that is required reading this summer! You will find the title of the book at the very top of your reading list and some questions to consider are included in the document. All the other books on the list are suggested reading.

Parents of rising Kindergarten - 2nd graders and 8th graders: the books on your lists are suggested reading only. Please make sure your child reads and/or is read to this summer!

Also attached below:
  • The UPDATED Department of Education School Year Calendar - This calendar has been updated since I emailed it home in March 2015 and could be updated again over the coming year. Always check the "as of" date to make sure you have the latest version!

G&T Wait List Information

posted Jun 5, 2015, 4:31 PM by Marcie Shaw

If you ranked Anderson on your G&T application, then your child is already on the wait list for our school and for every other school you ranked, as well. There is nothing more for you to do.

If a seat opens at any school you ranked higher than the one in which your child was placed (or any school you ranked, if your child didn’t receive a placement) and if your child’s name is next on the list for that school, then the DOE (or the school, which is new this year) will contact you directly to offer the seat. It’s automatic and this process will be in effect until mid-October. The waitlists were ordered by the lottery and are in a computer system – they cannot be altered by anyone. Schools have not been given access to their lists yet.

If you were offered a G&T program that you prefer over your local school, go ahead and register your child there. If something opens up at another school and your child is in line for that seat, you will get called – you will not forfeit because you have registered elsewhere.

School Hours for 2014-2015 School Year

posted Aug 20, 2014, 3:20 PM by Marcie Shaw   [ updated Aug 21, 2014, 11:58 AM ]

As Ms. Hyde announced in her June 26th letter to parents, the school’s hours for all students in grades K through 8 will be 8:20 am-2:40 pm, due to the new UFT teachers’ contract. Busing will be a half hour earlier in the afternoons and Wingspan will also start right after the school day ends at 2:40 pm. So the start time is the same as it has been, but the dismissal time will be 30 minutes earlier than it used to be for grades K-5. Grades 6-8 were already dismissed at 2:40.
