New York City public school students in grades K-12 are invited to submit poster designs for a contest promoting wellness in schools. Wellness promotes a healthy mind and body, and focuses on the mental and physical health benefits of eating nutritious food and being physically fit. Schools play an important role in promoting wellness for everyone in our school communities. At the Anderson School we continue to work towards promoting wellness and health through physical activity, school meals, and education programs.

For the fifth straight year, the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) is continuing its partnership with the SHADE Foundation and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to sponsor the "2011 SunWise with SHADE Annual Poster Contest." The content raises awareness about the importance of sun safety, addressing the growing incidence of skin cancer across the nation. At the Anderson school we have dedicated time in Physical Education class to talk about the harmful effects from the sun's ultraviolet radiation. We list sun safety action steps that a person can take to prevent the negative health effects from the sun.
